Yacht and Boat Maintenance

Your yacht is a major investment. The continuing value of that investment is very dependent upon how well it is maintained, so let us assist you in protecting that investment.

 

Bottom Maintenance:
We have divers available for bottom cleaning such as slim, barnacle removal and zinc replacement. This is essential for keeping up the performance, speed and fuel economy of your yacht.

Haul Outs and Bottom Paint:
The main purpose of a haul out is to repair and paint the bottom.
This prevents the growth of barnacles and other fouling agents on the bottom of the boat. The best way to do this is to apply a copper based bottom paint. Copper is the active anti-fouling agent. The more copper you apply the better it will work. You judge bottom paints by:

A. The amount of copper each contains
B. Whether the paint is a "Hard" or a "Soft" based paint

Soft bottom paints such as Neptune, Micron, Trinidad
 work best when the boat is use periodically to allow 
some of the paint to slough off. We will apply one or
 two coats depending upon your needs .  

We also address any blistering that may occur in the fiberglass. 

What are Blisters? 
They are the result of water molecules squeezing between the spaces separating the 
    
fiberglass molecules. Water can and does get into your laminate. 
It is not unusual for a 7 or 8 year old boat to begin developing blisters.
 Once your boat is in the water, fluids tend to concentrate in voids 
and air bubbles in the laminate. These voids can vary in size from 
microscopic to the size of a fifty cent piece. Since air is introduced to 
the resin in mixing and into the laminate process during lay-up, it is
 simply not possible to produce a hull with no voids in it. The quality 
of the manufacturer however, does go a long way in controlling 
the size and frequency of these voids. 

Compound and Waxing:
Compounding and waxing your fiberglass boat will keep your boat looking fantastic 
for years.  The gel coat is soft and will oxidize when exposed to sun and air. Periodic 
polishing with a fine compound and waxing will remove the oxidation and prevent 
further deterioration. We have professionals that will do this to your satisfaction.
